Review of Baghead (2008) by Ricky L — 13 Jun 2008
I was unfortunate enough to attend the Austin outdoor premiere the other evening. how do you some up the review kindly? I guess the inflatible screen falling over was the most amusing part of the night.
The movie was out of focus for a good third of the film -- " to give the actors room to express themselves" as the directors replied in Q&A. which is code word for shitty camera work.
The script was OK, the "loveable fat guy"--was the only actor worth mentioning. the other 3 cast were lightly developed to say the least. I guess some cool mumblecore code of development. For some reason the directors kept stating with all their self-congratulatory hubris " aren't we brilliant" which I think they said 3 times.
Thankfully, the hometown Austin newspaper gave the film 2 stars. which is rather kind.
Baghead, is Bad-head, and the directors need to get off the cinematic pedestals they are putting themselves on.
