Review of Baghead (2008) by Eric J — 10 Jan 2009

Maybe I only enjoyed this movie b/c after seeing The Happening, I thought it was better by default, but I enjoyed it and can see why other people would not care for this movie. Baghead is one of those movies that can catch you off guard if you don't know what you are going to get.

For instance, it's not a horror movie and I laugh at all the whiny people here who gave this 0 stars because there were no messy death scenes, as if that makes a good movie. This movie is basically the story of four down and out friends who are inspired to create their own movie and head up to their friends cabin for a weekend to write a script.

Here I think one of the charms of the movie is that the audience can probably relate to one of the characters at some point b/c this film truly feels like a group a friends hanging out for the weekend: the drinking, the drama, and the tricks they play on one another certainly seems like something friends would do to another.

The mystery of Baghead only adds to the mix and brings out some creepy elements. Then there is the greater idea presented in this film: That basically anyone can create a movie, and I agree with this statement.

However, it's up to the audience to decide if the creation is good or not.
