Review of Bad Words (2013) by Dann M — 06 Sep 2014
Irreverently hilarious, Jason Bateman directs and stars in the dark comedy Bad Words. The story follows a 40-year-old misanthrope who uses a loophole in order to enter into a children's national spelling bee.
Bateman is perfect for this film's black humor and subversive satire, and delivers it brilliantly. Still, the coarseness and vulgarity becomes a bit much at times. However, there's something refreshing about how unapologetic the film is about its antihero and that it doesn't try to justify his behavior.
A clever and outrageous comedy that doesn't hold back, Bad Words is wickedly funny.
