Goddard crafts an excellent film, but drops the ball slightly with the conclusion. I really enjoyed The Cabin in the Woods and Goddard was the filmmaker behind that great film, but here he loses traction and can't stick the landing.
The film is brilliant when it is playing with conventions, and allowing unpredictability into your film is not an easy thing to do. The film has style and a cast who are ideal and they hold this together for the better part.
A few moments distract, but overall this is what Hollywood are missing at the cinemas. Bad Times at the El Royale is a good film. It reminds me of the early days of Quentin Tarantino, but it lacks the polish.
It is a shame this failed at the box office, but this will be a cult film. 30/12/2018.
