Review of Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) by Torion O — 10 Oct 2018
It's like The Hateful Eight only with substantially more plot that is substantially less dialogue-driven. In some ways it may be considered the antithesis to movies lacking plot and instead relying on action or gimmicks.
By that I mean some plot elements may be superfluous, however the film isn't really about any one person and because it has you intrigued by every character it's, at least to me, icing on the cake.
The acting as well, particularly Lewis Pullman (holy sh!t he was good), was all around pretty great. The film does well maintaining a low-key suspense alongside an air of mystery up until the end where I wasn't certain where things would go and it was fun.
I'm going to cringe every time I look back and read this, but Bad Times was a good time.
