Billy Bob Thornton gives arguably his finest performance to date in this gloriously cynical festive satire. The movie offers standalone proof that not all Christmas flicks need cushy sentiment and catchy sing-songs to be entertaining and amusing.
However, the film's true genius lies in Terry Zwigoff's ability to drop a much-needed pebble of heart into a sea of subversive comedy without undermining the film's satirical premise. This bittersweet Christmas caper is essential viewing for all.
