Review of Bad Moms (2016) by Dean W — 07 Oct 2016
Funny in parts. When it slows down you really notice how much formula has gone into making this hit all the right notes and plot points. Much like Sausage Party, the writers seem to think crude is funny just because crude is funny.
I don't think they even thought, "Hey its funny because women are saying these crude things." And foul language can be funny when it's used for effect or certain moments. When characters say cuss words in every line you lose the impact of some jokes to land because the foul-mouthed reaction that is justified and funny falls flat because that's how they've reacted throughout.
Not rehashing the plot, you've watched the trailer. No secrets. Although the wrapping up with the enemy feels forced, and the message of equality gets lost when the end has Kiki not helping at all while her husband takes 4 or 5 kids ( I don't know how many, it was like the Cosby show with that couple) to school and she texts and drinks coffee.
If it's about equal partners that's not there in the end. No that's not a spoiler, this isn't Girl on the Train. Moms will disagree with me, all my single mom friends have said so because they liked the ending.
To each their own.
