Review of Bad Luck (1960) by Martin T — 22 Nov 2008
This goes on a bit too long, but much of this is brilliant and hilariously hopeless. It tells the story of Jan, a shallow and ignorant man, who drifts through decades of Polish history without any real understanding of his actions.
Part slapstick comedy, part moral tale, the film suggests that national history progresses not by way of self-sacrifice and heroics but by cowardice and self-delusion.
