Review of Bad Luck (1960) by Stella D — 18 Jul 2012
It's said that comedy doesn't travel but this polish film is one of the funniest foreign films I have seen. like a comedic version of 'il conformista', it chronicles one man's attempts to fit in, be successful, meet women and find happiness, all of which come to nought as in his view, he is constantly plagued with bad luck.
the film covers a lot of ground historically including the years before, during and after ww2 and plays as a satire on poland's heroic view of itself. a bit slapstick for me or i'd give it 5 stars easily.
great work by director munk.
