Review of Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) by Pedja L — 08 Dec 2007
The train pulls iinto a little piece of fascism. Black Rock is a town in the grip of fear and it's eating the hearts of its inhabitants. It's 1945. The War is over; but there are still debts to be paid. One man of honour has come to Black Rock to pay his respects and leave the war medal his son got for heroism on the battlefields of Italy to the son's father. Trouble is that some of the residents in this town without pity dealt very harshly with the "Jap's" father during the War. Of course the man of honour didn't care that the man who fought so heroically at his side in Italy was a "Jap". After all, he was fighting fascism.
The sick patriotism of racists is pummeled in this very well done film made in 1955. There is a paralell here with "High Noon".
