Review of Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) by Bob V — 09 May 2010
"Bad Day at Black Rock" gives the viewer a skin-crawley Twilight Zone sensation almost from the start. It's almost a western and certainly has the thriller and film noir genres well-covered as well. Powerfully portrayed by a magnificent group of actors: Spencer Tracy, Robert Ryan, Lee Marvin, Anne Francis, Walter Brennan and Ernest Borgnine are just the most recognizable among a tremendous cast. Top drawer!
Spencer Tracy as John J. Macreedy.
Robert Ryan as Reno Smith.
Anne Francis as Liz Wirth.
Dean Jagger as Sheriff Tim Horn.
Walter Brennan as Dr. T. R. Velie Jr.
John Ericson as Pete Wirth.
Ernest Borgnine as Coley Trimble.
Lee Marvin as Hector David.
