Excellent ozzie movie that has its weaknesses but is still essential viewing for fans of the bizarre and fucked up. The first half-hour is fantastic - all filth, fat and sordid fury. The plot goes awry somewhere in the middle section but the film remains compelling all the same and there are a few scenes that are just pure gold - my favorite maybe being Bubby's aborted erotic encounter with 2 sex mad groupies.
ALthough the film is grimy and utterly base at times at its core it's a movie with a big ol' sentimental heart which is very much in the right place. And Nicholas Hope is spellbinding - a movie like this would never get an oscar I suspect but he sure as hell deserved one for his performance in this.
