Review of Backcountry (2015) by Zac C — 06 Apr 2015
It is actually a very engrossing and entrancing survival movie. Different from what I'm used to. The cinematography made the forrest very claustrophobic and really put you in the trees. They only flaw I really have with it is the character of Jenn.
This is her first camping trip. Through all this horrible events she not only survives but makes splints out of twigs and is able to out run a black bear. I'm fine with that except early in the film they establish that her character is a lawyer and has never been camping ever and that she is a complete novice of the outdoors.
Was the director trying to establish her characters ability to adapt to survive or commenting on how some people find strength when faced with fear and likely death? Perhaps. It' still an enjoyable and well made movie.
I do recommend seeing this. It is a very low budget but good movie. All I know is that I am now absolutely positively terrified of bears.
