Review of Back to the Future Part III (1990) by John R — 10 Apr 2013
Back to the Future Part III, the last of The Back to the Future trilogy, has Marty (Michael J. Fox) traveling to the Old West (1885), to rescue Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) from the clutches of Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson). Of course things get even more complicated as Doc falls in love with a schoolteacher named Clara Clayton (Mary Steenburgen), which makes him reluctant to return.
The final chapter in the Back to the Future trilogy is a step up from the disappointing part II. Fox and Lloyd still have wonderful chemistry and the love story between Lloyd and Steenburgen is sweet and refreshing. Thomas F. Wilson is menacing and hilarious as Mad Dog Tannen. Although Lea Thompson is hardly given anything to do which is disappointing, and Crispin Glover is still nowhere to be found.
At first I wasn't to thrilled to watch the third part because of my dislike for westerns, but that quickly changed. If anything it added to the story and gives the trilogy a satisfying conclusion. As much as I want there to be a Back to the Future Part IV, I know that it is highly unlikely as all of the characters stories are fully developed. So kudos to Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale for creating a decent ending and for creating a smart and wildly entertaining trilogy for the ages.
