Review of Back to the Future (1985) by Timothy G — 11 Jul 2014

I don't remember the 1st time I saw 'Back to the Future'. Even though I was a child of the 80's, it wasn't in a theater. I wanna say that it was probably on TV sometime in the late 80's. But I DO remember being absolutely enthralled.

The concept of time travel has always interested me anyway, but the idea of going back to school with your parents and affecting their relationship was something that was on a whole new level.

Outside of the Oedipal complex this movie explores, the relationship of Marty's influence over his dad is cool too. Watching him try to turn his Dad into a more confident man is quite funny and endearing.

What makes this movie work on so many levels is the combination of an amazing cast (just TRY and imagine this movie without Micheal J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd- it's NOT possible), an amazing story (that's both epic and familiar at the same time), amazing special effects (for it's time), and one of the best soundtracks ever conceived. "The Power of Love" is still played today, and the score by Alan Silvestri is an absolute classic.

I really don't need to say too much about the plot as most of you have probably seen it, but if you haven't, what's wrong with you? It's one of the best movies of the 80's and it still holds up today. Hard to imagine that it actually came out 29 years ago this month. The best part of this time-travel film is that it is absolutely timeless. My highest recommendation.
