Review of Bachelorette (2012) by Marina N — 23 Nov 2012
After the huge success of "the Hangover" and "the Bridesmaids", another movie picking up a similar subject had to come. I enjoyed "the Hangover" and found "Brodesmaids" watcheable but "Bachelorette" was way to tasteless and stupid to be named in the same line as the previous two. The writer decided to stay away from cliched cheesy dialogue - that has been an integral part of most Hollywood romcoms about weddings - and substitute it with cursing and below the belt jokes: a good start gone wrong. The three bridesmaids, supposedly emancipated and self-dependent women, are mean and poorly behaving girls that should be a horror to every average person. I know that not all characters are supposed to be relatable but these ones just frustrated me all though the movie. I really felt sorry for the poor bride.
There are two reasons that still made me give the movie 2 stars. First of all, around the middle, despite the stupid dialogue, there seemed to be some change happening with the bridesmaids. A glimpse of hope soon disappearing. Also, imo, Kirsten Dunst did a really good job with her performance. It's particularly mentionable because these kind of movies usually don't offer much potential to show skill and it is quite difficult to stick out.
