Review of Babel (2008) by Ben B — 04 Jul 2012
Four countries, four stories, five languages, one incident that suddenly brings them all together. The third tale in Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Death Trilogy" comes off as a complex interweaving of different cultures that all play a part in one random act of violence that test each country's language barriers.
The failure to communicate is a consistent theme throughout, examined in every literal sense as powerfully as I've ever experienced. It's gripping, intense, and well worth the Oscar nominations it scored at the 79th Academy Awards, including its win for Best Original Score.
