Review of Away from Her (2007) by Melanie H — 01 Jun 2008

I almost turned this off during the first 10 minutes because I found the dialogue so unrealistic and "writerly." But I was compelled to keep watching by the dignified, understated performances of Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent.

Because it's a movie about Alzheimer's, it's not exactly the Feel Great Movie of the Year, but it effectively examines the nature of love, loyalty, and marriage and is deeply affecting.
