Review of Awakenings (1990) by Brandy C — 03 Jul 2009
What a phenomenal movie. The subject matter pulls at the heart strings, but it doesn't take away from the writers and directors ability to show that it takes someone to care for change to be possible.
Caregivers should not only do their job, but they should also truly care about the people they are working with. Robin Williams will always be a five star performer, and he did his job here. DeNiro is ok in this film, it seemed he really only had to "act" disabled in the beginning and ending of the film, and the rest seemed like any other ordinary persons life.
But the little he did portray of the inflicted was superb. Highly recommend.
