Review of Awakenings (1990) by Gavin D — 16 Mar 2013
Awakenings is a beautifully heart-felt yet also a powerful and dramatically enthralling film. Boosted by stellar performances from it's cast, particularly Robert De Niro, with his typically master-class, authentic, method performance as encephalitis lethargica patient, Leonard Lowe and Robin Williams' gentle, subtle and nuanced portrayal of neurologist Dr.
Malcolm Sayer, relating to real-life neurologist for which the story recounts, Dr. Oliver Sacks. 5/5 stars.
