Review of Avatar (2011) by Ronald W — 09 Apr 2014
It's a movie I feel is overrated and given too much credit. I don't believe the visuals are that amazing, especially after the release of 'Gravity', I mean it seems it's given the credit for being visually amazing simply because everything's in CGI. Don't get me wrong, it does look fantastic, it's just the visuals are not (in my opinion) groundbreaking. Not only that, the first 20 minutes of this movie was the most boring time I've spent watching the start of a movie.
After telling you my complaints you would think it wasn't that good of a movie, but rest assured, it is a good movie. If you're able to survive the starting 20 minutes then you'll have a joy ride the rest of the way. The anti-war and anti-corporation theme behind this movie are not thought provoking, but are intriguing, as the humans destroy the beauty of the natural world for their own selfish greed. I must say though, if the theme behind this movie is speaking generally against war and corporations, then I find it argues a debatable point. Nonetheless, it's enjoyable.
