Review of Avatar (2011) by Jake H — 22 Nov 2014
Sure, this movie is overrated as hell, but I still think it's great!
When one goes to see this movie, they will most likely be let down if they're expecting a revolutionary and original storyline. Honestly, you can grasp the entire plot from the very get go, or by reading one page in Native American history. It's honestly that freakin' linear. That being said, the characters within the story are very well portrayed and acted, and James Cameron once again proves that he has range as a director, capturing the adventure, action, drama, and romance of the story in a very epic way. What Avatar is most well known for, however, is not the story, but the revolutionary computer visuals that helped bring it all to life. Honestly, this is one of, if not the most visually stunning film I've ever seen. Pandora's jungle during the nighttime scenes is truly a sight to behold.
While Avatar isn't anything new in the storytelling department, it's still a sweeping, epic adventure, bolstered by some truly dazzling visuals.
