Review of Automata (2014) by Jeffrey D — 18 Mar 2015
It sounds like I liked it better than others, but I have a high threshold for weak science fiction. In the first 10 minutes, I thought it was just going to be a cheap ripoff of I, Robot. Certainly, It has a lot in common with that movie.
There is some good stuff in there, but the acting is weak in many places. I think the most glaring mistake (but maybe not the most significant) was casting Melanie Griffith as a scientist. That just didn't work at all.
I think she was most appropriately cast in Cecil B. Demented. Dylan McDermott was almost unrecognizable in this movie. I think the biggest problem I have with the movie would be the bad guys. They are just evil and stupid and don't make much sense throughout.
I am glad I watched it, but I can't really argue with other people's ratings of it.
