Review of Automata (2011) by Mark P — 15 Jan 2015
Yeah, okay there was a lot the could have done to make this better. I could have done without most of the gunplay, and yes, they rehased the look/feel of Blade Runner, and well, okay, some of the dialogue is clunky, but jeez, at least the sci-fi concepts weren't dumbed into skim milk.
Favorite part SPOILER: the "freed" pure AI that wrote the protocols obviously wrote into the protocols/biokernals the idea of emergent intelligence/free-will. That and what was the weird little robot at the end? Who knows! I don't get all the hate, especially after all the love for the vastly overrated Interstellar, but whatev.
Man, if only Kubrick or Soderbergh had directed this. Three solid stars.
