Gone with the Wind meets Miss Saigon meets Pearl Harbor! The only thing missing in this moralhistoromancepic was a thematic singsong like "Come What May"... ok, so they sang an abridged acapella "Over the Rainbow" but it was all dreamy.
Jackman goes one up on McDreamy/Steamy by becoming McFoamy, and Kidman's opening sequence with the indignant chirping & whooping were key (eye)openers. But it's the Creamy who steals the show and tugs at the audience's heartstrings.
The last 10 mins look like something out of "the Sound of Music meets Saving Private Ryan". But then again, I interlink past-movies too much. Just go catch Australia for what it is: a grand vast continent like no other -- walkedabout then, and now, with biologically & anthropologically diverse inhabitants.
