Review of Australia (2008) by Kevin M — 20 Jun 2013
Very disappointing. This film was a metaphor for a jack of all trades. master of none. It was supposed to be an epic, but it failed miserably at that. The film was too inconsistent in its theme. I found it trashy for a film that is supposed to be serious to have a stupid, supposedly funny and comedic strip where someone is running beside a 4WD having a conversation with the occupants while the vehicle was travelling at high speed.
Something that would have fit right in with Jim Carey in Ace Ventura, but not in this film. Comedy in a serious film is ok if it is unexpected and done right, but this was not it. The elements were there to make the film an epic, but the result was a case going through the motions, of filling in the dots.
Filling in the dots makes a picture that is recognisable for a child to colour in, but it does not make it a work of art.
