Review of Auntie Mame (1958) by Aymar J — 19 Jun 2007
Umm...GLORIOUS. Mame is one of the great characters, changing her home decor as often as her hair color; she's witty and buys modern art. She's the mother I never had! Plus, the movie is about being open, liberal, loving and accepting of those who are different, which is something we need more of in the world.
PLUS: the cinematography is actually inventive. I loved the fade-to-black at the end of each major scene -- it enhanced the film's (and Mame's) theatricality.
