Review of Auntie Mame (1958) by A.d. O — 26 Nov 2011
It just doesn't get any better than this! Rosalind Russel as the quintessential eccentric Auntie Mame is undeniably the best Mame ever captured on film (sorry, Lucille Ball pales in comparison). Filled with one liners that you'll never forget and stand-alone moments that range from rollicking laughter to pulling at the old heartstrings.
Details ranging from Mame's ever changing hair color and apartment decor to stellar performances from headliners like Russel as Mame, and supporters like Peggy Cass as Agnes Gooch, Carol Brown as Vera Charles and JoAnna Barnes as Glroia Upson make this film a picture perfect lesson in how broad comedy is done. Eveyone should see this at least twice!
