Review of August Rush (2007) by Carloss — 12 Apr 2008
It's really frightening to see how many people gave this movie more than a "3". There's nothing wrong with imagination, hope, love, and fable. But time and time again "August Rush" asks us to "believe" while simultaneously making belief impossible.
The resulting cognitive dissonance forces the intelligent viewer to treat the end result as unintentional comedy. Those who think this movie is the greatest thing since clumping cat litter need to deepen their capacity for appreciating true greatness when it rarely makes its appearance.
It's the very absence of such discriminating judgment that allows 4th rate movies like "August Rush" to find their way to the screen.
