Review of August Rush (2007) by Leigh M — 16 Aug 2016
I love this movie! I'm not sure why people feel the need to dissect it to the point of pointing out how unreal the circumstances are. Since when has a feel good movie ever been something that could be real? Unless a movie is based on a true story, you'd maybe only find a handful, if you're lucky, that get past a fairy tale plot and cross over into reality.
This plot is not meant to be real. So anyone with a true appreciation for this type of fairy tale plot will be able to truly enjoy this movie for what it is. For me, the ending wasn't a letdown. I don't feel the need for closure on a story that couldn't be true.
Its intent is to leave it up to the viewer as to what happens next. In a feel good movie, this is the kind of ending I love. I'm not so much a fan of the open endings in thrillers, but because my imagination is never at rest, it works perfectly for me in this film! When I get goosebumps watching a movie, it ranks high on my list.
Those who don't like it are just as entitled to an opinion, but I would say those individuals lack imagination and a true sense of what a feel good movie is supposed to evoke in its audience. Sometimes you need to leave reality for a little while and experience the beauty of imagination.
This movie is a perfect way to achieve that escape.
