Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Matt L — 04 Mar 2014
I found the plot to be a little pretentious and narcissistic, like it didn't necessarily have a purpose but just wanted to be heard. The characters are all severely flawed and garner no empathy, which is a shame because of the actors' performances.
Led by Streep, the cast all do phenomenal jobs in bringing their persons to life. Each role is layered and deep with guilt. If given another situation or scenario, the characters would have been nurtured more fortunately.
But make no mistake, Meryl Streep is fantastic.
