Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Alex W — 22 Mar 2014
Its a lot of fun to hear Streep and Roberts drop so many 4 letter words. There is some good acting in this especially from (no suprise) Streep who is so consistently amazing shes almost a victim of her own success.
Shes so damn good as the mean pill addict but I feel like her performance was not given enough attention because its expected. I still think she outdid herself and this might be her best work ever. Everyone else seems to rise to the occastion as well, even Abigail Breslin holds her own in a room full of heavy hitters.
The last film I saw B. Cumberbatch in I believe was Star Trek 2 and to see him go from the ultra powerful and confident Khan to the weak insecure Charles really showed me his range and impressed me. The downside to this film is its far to intense.
Almost every scene is highly dramatic with no down time in between to rest. To compare it to another film based on a Tracy Letts play "Killer Joe" has nice breaks where the story moves along and maybe theres some humor before it gets intense again, its a much better mix.
