Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Alex S — 29 Dec 2014

Looking at the cast list, I may have expected too much, but I got little to nothing out of the majority of the performances in this movie. Meryl Streep is naturally devoted, but the rest of the actors struggle to play characters that don't seem to have any complexity.

Benedict Cumberbatch was almost unnoticeable, Juliette Lewis did her typically poor job, and Ewan McGregor wasn't as involved in his role as I would've liked. Having said all that, I love the tone of the movie and the unrelenting script that creates it.

This movie isn't fun, but it's rewarding and one of the deeper, more complex, family dramas I've seen in a while.
