Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Bikerjames — 27 Jan 2014
Don't be fooled by the trailer - this is not a comedy. There are some comedic moments here and there, but overall it's a drama about a family who gets together after a family tragedy and the skeletons come out of the closet! It is based on a play that I didn't see so I can't compare it to the play.
The film reminds me of a couple of Woody Allen's great dramas ("Interiors" and "September") from the 70s and 80s which had the same theme and ensemble feel. Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts are in top form in this film and give Oscar deserving performances.
The supporting cast is pitch perfect and there are no dull moments.
