Review of Audition (2000) by Chunyu Z — 09 May 2009
This is an absolutely horrible film, as most Takashi Miike films are. It is not entertaining, it is not thrilling, it is not suspenseful, it is not scary, and it is not in any way coherent or believable.
The last half of the film is basically a jumbling of meaningless and random images. The characters are not interesting and give the viewer no reason to care about them. The storyline is pathetic, almost as if it were a made-for-television movie that would make its premier on Lifetime.
Acting is poor, art direction is poorer, and to make sum it all up, everything about this film screams mediocrity. Don't waste this one hour and fifty-five minutes of your life. You will only be able to enjoy this film if you have bad taste in film, and it is as simple as that.
