Review of Audition (2000) by Bill K — 11 May 2009
Wow, just wow. I preface my review with this, the rating is only good for those that enjoy horror movies, and consider themselves horror devotees. This movie is not for the faint of heart, and not even for the casual horror fan.
It is truly disturbing and is not a film that has any attraction for those that do not enjoy a good gruesome flick. That being said, if you enjoy horror/psychological suspense, with a good number of cringe worthy scenes this movie is for you.
It is perfectly set up, with the entire first half making you very attached to the male lead, and then bam. It changes into maximum horror overdrive and the events that the lead go through kicks you right square in that newly formed emotional attachment.
Its a great artistic film as well, one of the best in regards to that. Even though it has tremendous artistic merit though, does not change what it is and or make it worth watching if you are not a fan of the genre.
This one can give you nightmares. Oh yea, and its not for kids, no way no how, if your kids aren't 18 then you have no business let them watch this. And I am pretty liberal when it comes to that.
