Review of Audition (2000) by Derik W — 16 Jun 2009
I'll be 100% honest with you: I didn't get it. I was okay until we started seeing what might be flashbacks but the guy was there in the room and then the girl was 7 and then she was 24 and then she turned into the guy's coworker and then his son's girlfriend... I couldn't follow it. And what was up with the whole second set of conversations mixed into all that mess?
My bottom line is this: if it has to be explained to me--it fails. You can call me dumb, but I rarely have trouble with movies and this was too much David Lynch-esque crazy nonsense.
And to everyone who said it was the most disturbing thing they've ever seen: watch a French horror movie like High Tension, Frontiere(s), or Martyrs and we'll talk. Miike's banned episode for Masters of Horror was more deranged than this one.
