Review of Audition (2000) by Eriel B — 01 Mar 2011
After hearing about it from countless horror enthusiasts, I FINALLY saw "Audition". And the verdict? Very overrated. Frankly, this is more of a drama with a scene or two of the horror/thriller persuasion thrown in. Often, it even ventures into "boring" territory.
The only part I appreciated was Yamazaki by the phone and the "bag" beside her convulsing (that tiny scene captured her persona more perfectly than anything else ). But the prized piece was definitely when the teenaged son calmly asks: "Dad? Are you alright?" Chooch, daddy has about 30 needles sticking out of his chest and his foot has been sawed off and thrown to the opposite side of the room. Do you REALLY need to ask?
