Starting as an innocent tale about a father longing for love, Audition builds up tension fairly well - until it reaches its jaw-dropping finale, a dream sequence that will make you flinch. It is the stark contrast between the tranquility of the beginning and the sheer madness at the end that makes this horror movie work.
