Review of Audition (2000) by Eric B — 10 Mar 2012
What a waste of two hours. I'm angry that I was led to believe "Audition" was an "important" film. I checked the clock: 48 minutes passed before something interesting happened, and the second interesting thing happened at 59 minutes. If you wait through about 90 minutes of tepid romantic courtship, you'll get a few silly gross-out moments that are all about just goosing the audience rather than painting any plausible characters. Bravo?
The idea of "auditioning" potential girlfriends under the pretense of casting a movie is a good premise that could have gone in a dozen interesting directions. Too bad the filmmakers couldn't find one of them.
