Review of Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) by Ryan S — 16 Jun 2007
One of the most beautiful, sad films I have ever seen. The story follows a donkey that is portrayed as a saint from when it is first purchased by a family through its life. At times, the plot seems to jump around, but that is because the story is not concerned with what is happening to certain people, but rather the effect that the actions have on the donkey.
The ending is one of the most touching and sad ever. This is possibly Bresson's best work.
