Review of Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) by Alan G — 05 Oct 2007
Its pacing is deliberate, and its stylish realism isn't going to wear its story on its sleeve. But this dolorous tale of a girl and her donkey has such mythic and allegorical significance that it's been called one of the finest Christian films ever made.
But for those not already comfortable with French New Wave: an irregular narrative like this takes its time and demands longsuffering. But to many believers, it should prove to be a rewarding experience.
