Review of Atomic Twister (2002) by Steve B — 20 Jul 2012
This is one of those movies that makes you think of the possibility of a 'twister' damaging or hitting a nuclear reactor. For starters they should have decided more carefully where to place and build one and within which county or country! The movie starts a little slow, introducing you to the main featured characters.
The movie shifts back and forth to particular specific locations as the storm brews and the tornado's hit. The drama heats up as the movie progresses and voices get louder, the wind stronger and the damage and chaos more intense, I did feel that the damage and debris everywhere did add to the realism.
For the reactor plant being so huge I was a little surprised to get the feeling it was so empty, minimal staff (just the key characters) worked the problems mainly from just one makeshft computer room.
A lot of tongue in cheek moments, force OTT scenarios to raise the tension and a lot of extra looking busy. Overall a dramatic, race against time movie including tornado special effects, but a little off Jan De Bont's 'Twister' and comes in 2nd.
