Review of Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) by Brant M — 16 Jan 2009
What a loose cannon of a film. Lots of pointless diversions, character moments, and the story never really knows where it's going. The character designs are an odd mix, and unsuccessfully try to ape Mignola.
I admit the film possesses some amount of charm that keeps you watching it until the finish...but unfortunately it's charm for charm's sake and in no way reinforces the story. It's sad to see such talented directors as Trousdale and Wise (and undoubtedly, such a talented animation team) churn something so unsatisfactory. Whether the blame lies with them or executive meddling, I don't know.
