Review of Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) by Luxo J — 20 May 2010
Milo Thatch (Michael.J.Fox) discovers an ancient journal with clues to the lost city of Atlantis. Along with a skilled but quirky group of explorers, they all go together in a large submarine on an expedition to find this city of Atlantis hidden under the sea. When they get there they discover a land with supreme technology, mystical power and priceless riches. But when a surprise take over plot emerges, Milo has to start saving Atlantis.
With this movie, Disney were trying to do something new like they hadn't done before. So they wanted to do something like a sci-fi adventure. It's good how Disney like to try new thinks, but this is an example of them going to far. Unfortunately, this story would fit better if the movie was live-action and not animated. It could actually been done in live action quite easily, they just needed to change the characters a bit so they were a bit more adult. In fact, even if this is animated, the characters are childish and don't like grown ups at all. But I guess they have to make it like that so it's more entertaining for kids. What I like about a lot of Disney films is the charm they have, and this had very little of that.
Overall, It think it's just unnecessary for Disney to have made such a boring animated movie like this. Sorry to the people who like this, but it didn't work for me.
