Review of Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) by Rotten T — 18 Jun 2011
Atlantis is such an interesting movie because it digs deep into the world of steampunk and mythology, and Disney does it so well. The story is very intriguing, but it may not be as engaging to a ten year old kid whom Disney is used to having for an audience.
Instead, this film may have worked better in the style of a PG-13 Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones-esque adventure film rather than a kid's movie. Then the story could have appealed more to people instead of sacrificing a potentially enthralling story with a kid's movie that doesn't feel innocent enough to be suited to children.
But when you watch this film, you'll feel that sense of excitement and adventure that you just don't see with those other Disney flicks - namely those with annoying sing-a-longs and overly cute talking animals.
