Review of Astro Boy (2009) by Xander K — 05 Dec 2010

I can't quite put my finger on it, but there was something about the movie I didn't quite like - I just didn't feel as drawn in as other recent animated movies. It felt a little all over the place and tried to introduce too many characters from the get go. And I wasn't attached to any of them because they didn't spend time developing any of the characters properly.

That being said it was enjoyable and a little darker than your typical animated movie. And although the story is rather predictable, it's a nice visual treat.

All the actors did a great job with the voices but I wasn't fond of Nicolas Cage as Dr. Tenma. It was just distracting and felt out of place.

And being a fan of Charlize, I loved her short narration in the beginning and I would love to see her lend her voice to a big character in an animated film.
