Review of Astro Boy (2009) by Ted W — 08 Jun 2017
Astro Boy is directed and co-written by David Bowers, and it stars Freddie Highmore in an animated film about a robot that looks like a human being, but has a lot of mechanisms in him, and he goes out to find his destiny of what he's suppose to do.
I haven't seen this film in years, maybe when it first came out on DVD, so it made me feel a bit old, even though I'm 19 years old, that I got to see this again, and while I enjoyed this more when I was a kid that saw it in theaters, I still thought it's a good movie.
The animation is really good as they do look very anime, except for the child characters, that are basically lost boys from Peter Pan, as they look a bit Americanized from the other characters that has a bit of style that make them look different from anyone else.
There are some good humorous moments, and the action scenes are really good, but the story is not that original as I've seen this before in better kids films. The characters are fine, but the villain irks me the wrong way, and it was quite a bothersome to watch from the villain.
There were also some moments that irritated me, but it didn't necessarily ruin the film from me as I thought it was a fine and harmless enough flick that is certainly better than other Anime adaptations.
