Review of Astro Boy (2009) by Jeffrey T — 03 May 2010
Astro Boy is the Mickey Mouse of Anime.
He is the single most iconic and memorable character in the entire history of the genre, so therefore..this movie had a lot to live up to.
American Audiences, need to appreciate the beauty and wonderment of the japneese animated sensation know as Astro Boy, and now we have this movie to share the love.
I believe they did a good job culturizing this film over for international audiences to enjoy. Its been so long since the creation of Astro Boy, the movie project was long overdue, but now finally we have something localized and modern.
Now if only they can do the same for so many other Japanese masterpieces. Manga/ Japan animation to movie productions are just getting off the ground and now thanks to the success of this great work, we can expect more splendid anime to follow. Hopefully with the same expert quality and attention to detail.
The Japanese are wonderful story tellers as well as extremely talented animators, and there unique and imaginative designs deserve more spotlight.
Astro Boy Looked great and sounded terrific, im very thankful for the release of this film and all the people that did such a fine job bringing it to the big screen and in full never before seen 3d graphics.
Congratulations to the crew, I just hope many more releases will follow the standard of quality you produced.
I cant entirely comment on this adaptation of the original, having never really spent time understanding it, but it seems like they were able to capture the core of the story and a few other points but may have missed out on some of the more darker and gritty details that the Japanese creator intended.
As Manga and anime tend to lead down darker alleys and explore strange psychological avenues, this 90 min piece unfortunately may not have had the timing and direction to pull that off. Often times things get lost in translation, but all in all they seem to have encouraged the spirit and theme, for a good showing overall.
This movie puts a Mega Man aka Rockman 3d movie project at the top of my wishlist for animated features. I can only hope for now.
