Astro Boy is loosely based on a manga with the same name written by Osamu Tezuka. The original story of Astro Boy is quite dark, this film is starts off in a dark comical way. It doesn't keep the same feel of the manga/anime and is put through the same generic modern CGI animated style.
There is nothing spectacular or particularly awful about this. It's okay.
